��С��̳ is part of the California Virtual Campus - Online Education Initiative (CVC-OEI)

The California Virtual Campus – Online Education Initiative (CVC-OEI) is a collaborative effort among California Community Colleges (CCCs) to ensure that significantly more students are able to complete their educational goals by increasing both access to and success in high-quality online courses.

The CVC-OEI is sponsored by the Foothill-De Anza Community College District as the recipient of a grant disbursed by the California Community College Chancellor’s Office (CCCCO). Composed of high-quality online courses, resources for students, and technology, the CVC-OEI represents a comprehensive and collaborative program that leverages effective practices and technology to significantly increase the opportunity for higher education degree attainment in California.

For Prospective Online Faculty

CVC-OEI Resources

Brand New to Canvas

Introduction to Canvas

. This is a self-paced course.

Requirements to get admitted to the training: Registration Required.

Frequency: This is a self-paced course that is offered throughout the year.

Upon Completion of Training: Faculty will be marked as "Canvas Ready". Please send your completion page to canvasfaculty@ccsf.edu.

Note: No payment is offered for the Introduction to Canvas course.

Temporary Distance Learning Training (TDLT)

This training helps faculty move their in-person courses to temporary distance education (i.e., Remote) such as in emergency situations. Faculty learn how to use Canvas asynchronously and synchronously in order to move class material to a remote learning environment.

The TDLT is a facilitated training that takes approximately 8 hours to complete over the course of 8-10 days.

Requirements to get admitted in TDLT:

Faculty must have a current or future Remote teaching assignment and must have a ��С��̳ login. The Home Department Chair will provide the form for faculty to submit to gain access to the training.

Frequency: As of Summer 2023, the TDLT is not being offered since Remote class offerings are not currently being offered at ��С��̳.

Upon Completion of TDLT: Faculty will be able to teach their in-person classes as Temporary Distance Education until the emergency order is lifted and they can return to the in-person/classroom setting.

Note: Payment is offered after successful (80% grade) completion of the training.

New to Online Teaching

Introduction to Online Teaching and Learning (IOTL)

This training is intended for faculty who have never taught an officially online course at ��С��̳*. The IOTL is an intensive facilitated course that introduces faculty to both asynchronous and synchronous styles of online teaching and uses the Online Education Initiative (OEI) rubric as a measure of online course quality.

Requirements to get admitted in the IOTL:

Faculty must demonstrate being Canvas Ready by completing the self-paced Introduction to Canvas course or completion of the Temporary Distance Learning Training offered at ��С��̳.
A completed and home department chair approved Application to Teach Online.
The completed application is scored and reviewed by the Distance Learning Advisory Committee (DLAC) or DLAC can establish criteria that faculty must meet in order to be recommended for training.
Final approval and funding by the Office of Online Learning and Educational Technology. Each faculty member will be notified of their status.

Frequency: Offered once in the Fall and Spring semesters. Sometimes a Summer session is added.

Upon Completion of IOTL: Faculty can teach the approved online course in future semesters and can teach their approved course as a fully asynchronous online course, fully synchronous online course or a mix of asynchronous online, synchronous online and in-person meetings**.

*Temporary Distance Education does not count as an officially online course.

**The instructional mode must be approved by the Distance Education Addendum (DEA) subcommittee in working with the Department Chair.

Experienced Online Instructor

Advanced Online Teaching and Learning (AOTL)

This training is intended for faculty who already completed IOTL and successfully taught at least one official online course at ��С��̳. The AOTL is a facilitated training that requires faculty to develop their course using the Online Education Initiative (OEI) rubric as a measure of online course quality. Faculty will be paired with a faculty reviewer as part of this training. Faculty also get updated on new or existing policies and practices related to online teaching.

Requirements to get admitted in the AOTL:

Faculty must have completed IOTL at ��С��̳ or another closely related training at another college or university.
Faculty must have taught an online course for at least one semester.
A completed and home department chair approved Application to Teach Online.
The completed application is scored and reviewed by the Distance Learning Advisory Committee or the DLAC established criteria that faculty must meet before being recommended for training.
Final approval and funding by the Office of Online Learning and Educational Technology. Each faculty member will be notified of their status.

Frequency: Offered once in the Fall and Spring semesters. Sometimes a Summer session is added.

Upon Completion of AOTL: Faculty can teach the approved online course in future semesters and can teach their approved course as a fully asynchronous online course, fully synchronous online course or a mix of asynchronous online, synchronous online and in-person meetings*.

AOTL is a repeatable course.

*The instructional mode must be approved by the Distance Education Addendum (DEA) subcommittee in working with the Department Chair.

Course Design Academy: Peer Online Course Review (POCR)

Peer Online Course Review (POCR)

POCR is a professional development opportunity intended for faculty who have successfully taught online classes at ��С��̳ and wish to get more mentorship on their online course and enter the statewide Course Exchange through the CVC. Faculty in POCR will work closely with CVC trained faculty and classified staff to fully align their entire course to the Online Education Initiative (OEI) rubric.

Requirements to get admitted to the Course Design Academy: POCR:

Faculty must have completed IOTL and/or AOTL at ��С��̳.
Faculty must have taught an online course for at least one semester.
A completed POCR Interest Application and a meeting with a POCR Lead to discuss goals and timeline.
Final approval and funding (if available) by the Office of Online Learning and Educational Technology.

Frequency: Offered throughout the Fall and Spring semesters.

Upon Completion of POCR: Faculty will earn a Quality Reviewed badge on their POCR-aligned course (for credit courses only) and will earn the POCR-aligned badge at ��С��̳. Faculty can teach the approved online course in future semesters.
